Richard J. Haire IIIÂ
Here’s a brief overview of some of my interests, hobbies, education, and professional background.
My Professional Life:
I work at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) as a Marketing Coordinator in the Applied Research Liaison Office. I promote research activities, programs, and services within the department to industry partners, the general public, and the media. The work is exciting, the co-workers are great, and I love working in a place where I am constantly learning new skills. Before landing my job at BCIT, I worked with Beetling Design, eBay, and Bentall Retail Services. I enjoy the areas of internet marketing, online advertising, and social media. I love tracking results from campaigns, tweaking ads, and improving websites.
My Educational Background:
I’m a graduate of the two year BCIT Marketing Communications Diploma program. A few years after graduating from BCIT, I decided to go back to school to complete a Bachelor’s degree at Royal Roads University. I continue to strive to improve my skills and abilities by taking part-time courses at BCIT. I’m currently enrolled in a 12 week Video Journalism course to learn how to write scripts, use a professional video camera, interview subjects, and finally to edit the video. I’m also looking at improving my knowledge of various software programs like: After Effects, Photoshop, InDesign, and Flash.
My Personal Life:
I’ve had the chance to live abroad for two years in central Russia. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn about a different culture, learn a foreign language, and meet some extraordinary people. By learning the Russian language, I later had the chance to volunteer during the Vancouver 2010 Olympics to be an Athlete Host to members of the Russian Olympic Figure Skating team. I’m an avid reader. I predominantly read non-fiction books on marketing, social media, writing, and other business related subjects to help me learn new skills, but I’m also a huge fan of the ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ book series. I love watching the Vancouver Canucks and occassionally play ball hockey on the weekends. I live in Abbotsford, BC with my wife and three kids.
